Norton online family living report

For the third year running, Norton has produced their report which highlights the risks that children and young people are facing online. Children are spending longer online and have had more negative online experiences than parents realise. The report features 14 different countries and sought the views of over 7000 parents and almost 3000 children aged between 8 and 17. The following EU countries were involved: France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, UK

Some headline data:

- 44% of adults think that parents should have full control of their children’s online activities.

- 83% of children are playing online games and 51% download games on their own without any supervision.

- 25% of children have seen violent or nude images online.

- 62% of children have had a negative experience online.

- 48% of children think that they are more careful online than their parents.

- Less than 4 in 10 children use strong passwords which they change regularly.

The report is both concise and informative and worth reading – it can be downloaded from http://www.symantec.com/norton/theme.jsp?themeid=norton_online_family_report
